Internet Tech Station - Planetfrequency Radio
 Planetfrequency Radio is an internet radio station broadcasting the pre-recorded music mixes from events, clubs and parties around the globe by top djs world wide. PFR is a non-profit station that operates off of enthusiast, recreational, promotional dj mixes for the music being its motivation. Hosted and produced by MikeD every week for three straight days from Friday 7pm to Sunday 9pm. U.S. Pacific Time
 Founded in 2006 - My interest in the underground music began as a deejay spinning Tech, HardHouse, TechHouse and House in Las Vegas for 10 years beginning in 1996. Two Technics MKII turntables, crates of vinyl a mixer, amp and two Cherwin Vega 15" subs I dropped sounds at small get togethers, clubs, pubs, parties. As new technology arrived the internet was still in its infancy for expansion but none the less was here to stay. Two years in to my passion for djing I took to the idea quickly that the Pc could be very helpful in burning Cds as opposed to handing out my mixes on cassette tape. So I started using the Pc in numerous ways that assited my deejaying. Another was creating a website for my self promotional mixes and in doing so had to learn various ways to upload the new invention of Mp3s and wma audio files for people to listen to and download. 8 years of websites, Mp3s, audio files, wav sculpting, pc building, home studio constructing and mix collecting I had many projects going on at the same time. Then with all the focus on so many different areas at the same time the djaying slowed down and finally ceased.
 As the djing moved past me I realized I had new interests and it was still the mixes and music that I liked so much. Deeply embedded into the current technology my interests to do something else in this field I had a new music idea to replace djaying but with a new twist and it was an internet radio station. With the knowledge of djing, website building, digital audio compression, streaming crash courses and some radio background I realized the experience and knowledge all came together at the same time. In 2006 I was still going strong for the passion for mixes and as Pc storage became less expensive I collected much material. So with my interest in radio and some traing I decided that I wanted to put together a net station. Eight years earlier the streaming was much to expensive to consider in 1998 when I first wanted to start a station. By now it was very affordable.
 So in 2006 I began building the station. The research was done and with some knowledge already aquired for audio and technical applications the process was underway.
Starting out with only a pc mic and a dell computer the progress gradually ascended from there and 2 months later and countless hours of work, effort, persistance and revamping equipment and fine tuning the station was finally complete. The station constantly required site upgrades. Eventually four different versions of the station website were created. It is still a work in progress and its not the best but does get a little better with each version.
 As far as the music, the audience for the underground sound is still out there and enjoys their dj mixes and events. The commercialism in radio today has created a frenzy for top 40 and mainstream music stations. This has provided net radio with countless mainstream stations and these stations do well with their audiences and thats great in providing a wide variety for top 40 listeners. PFR was not founded with this at heart. The desire to broadcast music that I enjoyed spinning as a dj keeps it fun for me. After all, thats what keeps it enjoyable for me if its not for profit.
 PFR Listeners - Underground music is in a lower listener pecentile of radio music but PFR is your "Go To" station that specializes in broadcasting underground dance music for those that have few options to choose from that play mixes by top djs. PFR's biggest audience is mainly from Europe and other countries since the event mixes and underground sounds are more prevelant in these parts of the world as opposed to the U.S. The U.S. has its cities and states that have a following for PFR and are cities that have always had a strong passion for varieties of Tech. Philly, Detroit, L.A., N.Y., Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Ohio, Denver, Phoenix and Fort Worth just to name a few cities and states. Hopefully this will continue and expand over time and by exposure and spreading the word. The surveys and polls on the website are for station info and tracking the progress of our listeners and station, show, playist improvements. It is very helpful when this feedback is sent in so please send them if you would.
 Final Word - PFR operates on the non-profit premis. PFR and PF will keep improving but sometimes it results in downtime. All of your patience has been appreciated. Thanks for your listenership and support and please keep tuning in!

Show Times: Every week beginning on Fridays 7pm straight thru to Sundays 9pm. U.S. Pacific Time
The top of the show will be recorded every week for posting of special featured shows such as 'Exclusive Featured Dj' shows and 'Exclusive Featured' shows. Exclusive Dj shows will focus on a dj and play his or her mixes only where as genre oriented themes will stick to the genre selected for the entire show but of many djs selected playing that style. The regular shows will be recorded for posting along with "Exclusive Shows" and both will be posted on the stations site for podcast downloading. |
